The Fresno A’s have just accepted an invitation to play in the Golden State Baseball Collegiate Baseball League beginning in 2018. The league includes the Atwater Aviators, California Bees, Nevada Big Horns, Sacramento Heat, San Francisco Seagulls, South Bay Storm, and Top Speed Baseball. The League consists of a 42-game schedule, after which the top 3 teams head to postseason play.
After winning the National Baseball Congress World Series Qualifier in San Diego, the Fresno A’s competed in the NBC World Series in Wichita, Kansas. It was a tournament that also featured the Kansas Stars, and the Stars’ roster included the likes of Chipper Jones, Heath Bell, Jake Peavy, and Roy Halladay.
Fresno A’s GM/owner Anthony DeMaria said this on joining the GSCBL: “We are thrilled to join the Golden State league. The GSCBL is a premiere college baseball league, which will bring exciting and excellent competition for our players and great baseball to Fresno. This is a huge step forward for summer college baseball and all interested players can contact us at fresnoathletics.org."
The A’s will return players Marco Gonzalez, Eric Flores, Alec DeMaria, Brandon Hepp, Isaiah Daniels, and Travis Barrett from last year’s world series team. They will be joined by a very talented group of incoming signees from an array of schools from D1 universities to junior colleges. Early signees include the likes of Noah Lanter (UMary), Alante Uribe (Holy Names), Justin Hinojosa (La Sierra), and Jan Elias (Cornerstone/Puerto Rico).
The GSCBL features a very high level of talent that include Top Speed Baseball. Top Speed is a perennial power who had 13 players go pro last season. The program was ranked third in North America in the final Collegiate Summer Baseball rankings in 2017, and was ranked as a finalist for the Perfect Game/Rawlings Summer Collegiate Team of the Year.
